Dr. Sanders has a philosophy for patient care: to pursue the practice of neurological Surgery with honesty and integrity; and to place the welfare and the rights of his patients above all else.

A Tennessee native, Dr. Sanders worked in virology research at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in memphis before receiving a Master's Degree in the study of neurotropic viruses from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He earned his Medical Doctorate from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis. He later served as an intern at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Memphis, under the direction of the Indiana University Department of Neurological Surgery. This was followed with a neurosurgery research fellowship studying the biochemical changes of spinal cord injury and recovery, as well as the use of Nd-YAG and Argon lasers in the study and management of cerbrovascular disease. Dr. Sanders has published several scientific articles on these and other topics.

Since completing his neurosurgical residency at Indiana University in 1992, Dr. Sanders has practiced with Neurosurgery and Spine Consultants of East Tennessee, PC. He is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Sanders enjoys trout fishing in the mountain streams of East Tennessee and Central Colorado, reading music, snow skiing, spending time with his talented and loving wife and daughters, and flying a British Royal Air Force primary trainer to military air shows. He and his family live in West Knoxville and attend Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church.
